In solid mechanics students learn about the deformation of materials for designing resiliant structures. The mathematical descriptions of stress and strain are key concepts and complex problems are broken down into descriptions of the forces acting on smaller elements of a larger body. Control of animation shape keys using mulitiple animation channels allows different types of deformation to be visualised. Thoughtful selection of model texture is used to show the stress and strain experienced by small elements of the whole.
